Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds has confirmed Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine in the MCU.
The Merc with a Mouth actor shared a humorous video on social media to explain why Deadpool was absent from Marvel Studios' panel at D23 Expo a few weeks back in spite of development on the project being previously announced.
In the clip, Ryan jokes that he has "nothing" lined up for the movie. Then, Hugh Jackman briefly walks through the background and agrees to play Wolverine "one more time" for Deadpool 3, now confirmed to release on September 6, 2024.
Ryan flashes a grin, as Whitney Houston's version of 'I Will Always Love You' begins playing, only it's now been changed to 'I Will Always Love Hugh'.
To further drive the history-making news home, a Marvel Studios logo is above the closing Deadpool graphic when it's slashed by Wolverine's claws.
Ryan has long talked about wanting to reunite with his X-Men Origins co-star, even though Jackman said he was giving up the Wolverine role after Logan.
Some fans suspected Hugh had a change of heart after some mysterious social media posts last year, though it's not clear if those were related to his involvement in Deadpool 3.
Jackman has played Wolverine since 2000's X-Men, including in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie that introduced Reynolds as Deadpool. There had been reports of Marvel recasting Wolverine for the MCU now that it owns the rights to the character again but, at least for now, that's not the case.
